Omaha Poker Strategy and Concepts
One poker game growing in popularity is Omaha. The major difference between Omaha and Texas Hold’em is the amount of cards each player is dealt. In Hold’em a player receives two cards while in Omaha a player receives four. In general, having more cards makes Omaha more of an action game with a lot of drawing. The other major difference is even though a player is dealt four cards he can only use at most two from and his and three from the board.
There are a few different forms of Omaha, mainly Omaha High and Omaha Hi/Lo (also known as Omaha-eight-or-better or O8b). The most popular form of the game is Pot-Limit Omaha High. This game is played in card rooms and on all major online poker sites at blinds up to $500/$1000. However, for those new to the game, most sites offer PLO at buy-ins as low as $2 or $5.
Below players can find basic rules of all Omaha variations including PLO and Omaha Hi/Lo. There are also some basic strategy articles which should help anyone new to the game. Omaha Hi/Lo is included in every HORSE line-up; therefore anyone wishing to play mixed games should take some time and learn the rules of the split-pot game.
