Heads Up

In this section you will find a wide variety of articles and strategy designed to improve your heads-up play. Whether it is in cash-game or tournament structure, heads-up poker can be a very profitable form of the game. Becoming better at heads-up poker will also help to improve all facets of your game.

In general heads-up play is extremely aggressive. Being able to understand your opponent and his/her tendencies is a big key in being able to maximize your winrate in the game. These concepts will certainly help to improve your play in other situations, such as blind vs. blind confrontations in ring games.

There are many ways to become a winning heads-up player. The most important key is experience. Playing a large amount of hands will help you understand key situations and to pick-up on certain opponent's tendencies. The nature of the game, being quite aggressive, will present some large swings to your bankroll. Because of this, make sure you are properly rolled for the buy-in level you are currently playing. Make sure to set a stop-loss for yourself (i.e. 2-3 buy-ins to a single opponent) to help avoid tilting off large amounts of your bankroll.

Playing heads-up allows you to be in position for half of the hands you are dealt. To take advantage of this make sure to play the majority of your hands from the button and to play very tight when in the BB (out of position). This will allow you to exploit your positional advantage and will in turn make you much tougher to play against.

Heads-up play can be extremely fun and rewarding. Be sure to gain a lot of experience from playing the game and to read a lot of the great strategy this site has to offer on improving your heads-up play.
